Nizoral is an imidazole antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections. Nizoral inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14-demethylase and thus impairs ergosterol synthesis leading to a cascade of membrane abnormalities in the fungus. This mechanism of action makes Nizoral an effective agent in the treatment of fungal infections.
